Course Description

The Gailes

True Scottish links golf comes alive in Northeast Michigan on The Gailes at Lakewood Shores Resort.  Designed to recreate the look and feel of those famous seaside courses of Scotland, and described as "a links that's as authentic as any in North America" - Ron Witten, editor Golf Digest.  The Gailes was rated the #1 Best New Resort Course in the United States for 1993 by Golf Digest.

The 10th hole at The Gailes, a relatively short and seemingly simple 348-yard, par-4, captures the true essence of links golf.  Hidden hazards await all around, 7 deep sod faced bunkers are eagerly poised to pounce on less than perfectly placed shots to the fairway or green, thick gnarled mounds of knee high fescue stand ready to swallow their little white round foe and an innocent gently flowing meandering burn on the left.  Mix in the often boisterous winds of Lake Huron and it will be hard to remember you are still in Michigan.

The Blackshire

he newest course at Lakewood Shores Resort, also designed by Kevin Aldridge, continues the tradition of giving golfers a unique golfing experience.

The Blackshire was designed to recreate the look and feel of the famous Pine Valley C.C. in New Jersey.  Although not a replica of Pine Valley, it does offer golfers a similar rugged and natural feel.  Cut through the hardwoods & pines, you encounter large sand waste areas along the fairways, trees and greens giving the Blackshire a much different look than your typical Northern Michigan course.

Encompassing less than 200 acres, it has a classic turn of the century design and feel.  Short walks from greens to tees also make it a classical walking experience if desired.
